  trapped, suffocated
I am squashed >.< and... and why is it so damn gloomy?????

Holy, it's already been a month since I got here. Time does fly by.. So I guess that means that I haven't seen a single star in a month... wow.. this is so weird. Anyway, let's see on what other things I've been missing out... friends, family, food, fun.. hahahaha odd, all I can come up with is words that start with F. Oh wellz..

Anyway, I was talking to my "boss" today. (Well, he's not my real boss.) We were just talking about work (what else) and somehow this guy came up as topic of conversation. So I asked who this guy was, if I'd seen him around. He told me he was some finnish dude who comes to the weekly meetings, the one with glasses, medium built, and... (after a brief moment of consideration) with black hair. Of course, the black hair! Then he looked at me, a little confused, and said with a smile on his face, just like you! And he was serious.

Yup.. Only in Finland, if your hair is black, you do stick out big time! Definitely an item of rarity! Anyway, so, one by one, I began to mentally picture those I'd come across in the building. But no one seemed to fit into the physical description. I don't think I ever seen anyone with black hair, other than myself. Besides, there can't be a Finnish guy with black hair. Noway!

Hahah, wouldn't that be funny if someone did that in Waterloo? Congratulations, you just found tens of thousands matches who fit in to that description. I still can't believe I'm in Finland...

On a side note, my bag of rice is running out. Though the "fluffy" rice is still good, I miss the sticky one. I also miss kimchi, you know... And oh, I can now cook rice without the rice cooker. Speaking of which, my co-worker (a Finnish guy) was blown away when I told him about this wonderful machine that cooks rice for you. Heheh.. I may find this place very strange, but apparently I'm not the only one.

Wow, I wrote a lot today... :O

Stanley Cup Final is on: Game 1: Calgary Flames vs Tampa "Fucking" Bay Light "Fucking" Nings.

Waiting... but that's okey

As you may have noticed (you'd better!) I've added something on the side. I took out the View All option and put that instead. I was determined to get the gallery thingy to work on Supernova but I just couldn't get it to work. So I gave up. Looks like there's nothing I can do about it from here. Even the administrator doesn't know how to it. *sigh* I'll try to fix it when I get back. Anyway. So instead I sat down and worked on the navigation bar. Yup, this was my Sunday. Just another Sunday.

My roommmate finally came home today. He's an Indian guy doing his PhD at the university where I work. He told me that he was visiting India for a month. He also told me how hot it is over there. I can only imagine... Anyway, now that he's here, I had to migrate back to my room from the living room. I also had to spend some time in the kitchen, too. I was truly amazed by how lazy I could get at times. Yuck...

The picture was taken last year in Santa Cruz, California, I believe. It was such a beautiful day, like others, and I was taking shots at random things in the streets while my friend was driving the car. Life was great. Little weekend trips here and there. Bored? Never. Anyway...

We don't know each other, but there is a bridge between us. It's called sadness.

I like this kid... again

I was cleaning up my pictures folder when I stumbled upon this picture. I saw this little kid wandering around the park during the Wappu weekend which was a few weeks back. Funny, we all thought, and we were compelled to chase this guy down for a decent picture of him. Luckily, I was quicker than the little one and was able to place myself in good position for the shot. Maybe he was already drunk, he didn't look too sharp. *sigh* Finnish kids these days...

It's been gloomy for few days now, and I wonder if it'll clear up a little to expose the sky filled with stars at night. Maybe?

By the way, Thursday was a national holiday in Finland. It's called Ascension Day, apparently. Weird to have a holiday on a Thursday, I thought, especially when you had to come in to work on Friday. What the...

  it stopped raining
On Yliopiskatu... and started again

I looked outside when I got up this morning. It was dark, and the streets were wet. It must have rained overnight, I thought to myself.

When I went out to go to work, I noticed it was starting to drip down. Great, I thought to myself.

I looked outside from my office just before I was getting ready to go home. It was still dark, and the streets were still wet. But the rain had stopped. Nice!

When I finally went out to go home, I noticed it was starting to drip down. Again. Great, I thought to myself.

I looked outside, just now, from the comfort of my aparment window, and guess what. No more rain. Of course. It can't be raining, It just can't.

Oh well, it's just one of those days.

The picture was taken a couple of weeks ago. And that would be Yliopistokatu (where -katu means road in Finnish). It feels like Autumn.

  twentyfour
On my way to Finland... and counting

I just finished watching the seventh episode of twentyfour, the teevee series to which, I must admit, I've been addicted to lately. I can't help it, it makes me crazy-glued to the screen of my laptop for hours. The only thing that doesn't change much during the time I watch the show is the sunlight outside. At this rate, I'm gonna become really efficient at cooking... because one minute not spent on the show is directly taken away from my sleep bank. Obviously, I don't have much in that account at this moment.

Anyway, I am sorry that I have nothing better to talk about than my latest obsession. But it's getting late, and I must give my eyes some break. *yawn*

Oh, by the way, the picture was taken during my flight to Finland. I got a little bored (and sick of drinking orange juice, perhaps?) and took some shots. Turns out, they're pretty cool! (Well, I think, at least!) Hope you like it, too. ;)

  must bike away
A bike trail nearby the university and my place... from you

Picture this...

I am walking home from work on a friday afternoon. The weather's a bit chilly, but the Sun's up so I am not completely complaining. (Ever since last weekend, the weather's gotten closer to the winter than the summer.) I am mindlessly walking along the path, until I become consciously aware of the presence of the most annoying creatures on this world, the birds! But I am a patient man, I keep telling myself and I make sure it doesn't bring my mood down. It's wonderful here, I thought to myself while smiling. So this is it, I can finally justify my being here.. Note to self: See? It's not too bad!

You know, one thing you can be sure to lose while you're living in Finland is your ability to keep the track of time. Why? Simply because it's freakin' sunny ALL THE TIME! You are not gonna believe what a 11PM means on a normal summer day in Finland. Good thing I have my eyemask... phew..

Anyway, let's continue with the story. So I am still walking, minding my own business, 'til, all of a sudden, I find myself in the verge of getting run over by two barbaric bikers. Wow! Slow down, juniors! Phew, that was close! Those little kids, they don't look when they bike! But there's something.. I can tell one of the kids is intrigued by something about me. No really, he really was. He must have never seen a man with black hair and two small eyes. He kept on looking at me and didn't bother paying attention to the road in front of him. So that was it. The next thing I know, I was Eye Fighting against a five-year-old. I may have small eyes, but you ain't gonna get me! I was getting personal, now. That is when I saw the ditch he was riding straight to. Should I let it happen? No... Yes... No... Yes... No... ... No wins!

Hey, watch it! Just as I yelled out to him, he felt into the ditch. I was too late. But you know what? I laughed. I laughed so hard, too. Oh boy, he just made my day! And I walked on...

Epilogue - The kid was just fine. Well, he seemed to be okey in front of his girl friend biker, at least. kekek Acting tough, eh???

Anyway, the picture was taken during my bike excursion to the city of Oulu, Finland.

  unaccompanied
So smooth... equals to accompanied'

A few days ago, I finally got to watch Master And Commander. It's a movie that I have been waiting to watch for quite some time. Sadly, I must have anticipated a lot because I thought the movie sucked big time. Anyway, although I found the movie to be unacceptable, I really liked its soundtrack; so I went straight to my favourite music downloader and acquired a whole bunch of classical music mp3s. What you see on the left is what I made while listening to Yo-Yo Ma performing J.S. Bach's Suite No 1 for Unaccompanied Cello. It was set on repeat, of course.

I took off my shirt, not because it was hot, but to make that background. Gently, I placed my shirt on the couch and took some shots of it. I liked the wrinkles and thought they were cool. Afterwards, I used the Photoshop to apply a whole bunch of filters and effecs to it. (I wish I could tell you what I did but I don't really remember it. >.< oops..)

It's so simple, yet I like it. Nothing fancy, and I'm satisfied with it. Hope you like it too. (It's hard to see the texture from that size, so I included that little zoom box.)

Oh, one more thing: Canada just won the World Championship! Hooray! hehe

  getting closer
Somewhere in Nevada, US. to you

After two boring movies, I still couldn't get to sleep. Maybe it was the dinner I'd made last night, it just kept me going and going. Then I finally went to bed at five, and that's when it all started.

At some point in my dream, I remember telling myself to get at least seven hours sleep. Run, buddy, run! I kept reminding myself. But I couldn't remember what or whom I was running away from. So I just kept on running, without looking back, discretely jumping from street to street, afraid of being noticed. I don't know for how long I ran, but then it suddenly hit me: I was in Korea. Huh? How and when did I come this far? But I couldn't answer it because I simply didn't recall where I was before that. Puzzled, I tried hard to remember my friends numbers, but I couldn't. What's happening? I don't remember anything? So I ran some more... until.. I don't remember. [Obviously, I skipped many many details.]

That's when I got up with a huge hunger, and I reached for my very last chocolate bar. I ate it so fast that I didn't even have time to savour it. Bummer! I looked outside and it no longer was morning. Then I reflected upon the chain of events that occured. I guess it's just one of those days when I suddenly get an overwhelming craving for chocolate. And the dream? Perhaps my subconsciousness's poor attempt in making an excuse for me to eat that last piece of chocolate? Nonetheless, it's another day in Finland.

Ambitious is, I must wet this land!
Expeditious is, Quick, I gotta go!

  escaping
Two parallel lines, just riding along... back to the prison

I tried, but I simply did not like what I had made. All of them. Every single one of them just did not do it for me. So here it is, something that I had worked on a while back but did not really like. Funny, because now that I look at it again, it was not so bad after all. Hopefully I will find those that I made during the last couple of days somewhat satisfactory in the future. Hopefully, that is. And I can't help but to feel that it is only getting worse. You know, I feel like I am losing something. I feel like a deflated tire that renders the car from functioning properly. Why?

Awaiting to make a phone call to Korea. It is The Kids' Day in Korea. It also happens to be a very special day for someone very special in Korea. It is not even eight in the morning over there. I should wait a little longer. Maybe, when I'm done with this, it'll be okey to call.

A cloud of hunger has overcasted me. Again.

Here are two naive lines going straight in a path. But they have a hope; and it is to be joined at one point. Little did they know, they simply were two naive parallels.

  may day
A new beginning Ohloo, here I am

They say the Sun doesn't set during the months of June and July (and possibly August), but I don't believe it. I refuse to believe it. Not until I see it myself. But I do must admit that it is clearly different in this part of the world. I don't need to mentally take a picture of my bed before switching the light off at night. The roles have been swapped between my alarm clock and me; I seem to be always the one waking up before it. And for those who didn't know this, eye shades are wonderful things. I can't begin to imagine what it would be like to not have it here with me. Anyways...

Nevertheless, I am glad to be finally liberated from the birds. No more annoying birds in the morning.

Next step is to get a DSL connection at home, and I'm all set. As for the pictures, I'm currently working on getting the server ready for the codes. Hopefully that won't take so long...
